Miles for Memory - Canada
Join Us in Supporting Alzheimer's Awareness
Three dedicated South Okanagan community members — Laurie, Andre, and Barb — are teaming up for a cause that touches countless families: supporting those living with Alzheimer’s and their families through movement and community spirit.
Our team, Miles for Memory - Canada, is participating in the Virtual Honolulu Marathon and 10K to support our Memory Cafes. The Foundation for Health Research has been initiating Memory Cafés for a couple years now. Bringing caregivers and dementia patients together in a positive and inspiring setting that fosters connection, joy, and mental stimulation.
Why We Run
“Exercise is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer’s,” says organizer Dr. Li. “We’re not only moving our bodies — we are moving the conversation about brain health and community inclusion.”
Inspired by research such as the FINGER and POINTER studies, which show how lifestyle interventions can help preserve cognitive health, our goal is to raise $15,000 to support dementia cafés and awareness programs in BC.
